The hunted 2016

Shot. Slain. Fallen. Corpse lying wasted
On sun-blasted, blood-soaked waterless ground.
Ivory tusks extracted, savagely. Life taken.
Cash tills ringing. Abuse hidden. Sanity, lost.
Greed amplified. Immorality branded
On choices made to extinguish what’s good.

Oh happy hunter, with gold in his wallet
Such a gamble played, on a bet you’ll lose!

Beautiful creature, strolling with grace
Attacked, though innocent, by the human race
For short-term gain, and long-term loss
With short-term focus, on the future cost.
Roaming free, majestic and wild
Caring gently for its family, is strong and yet mild.
Trailing through bleached savannahs, crashing forests and tall trees
Ploughing the dusty earth, and comfortably unaware
That your life would give another stolen, tainted mirth.

Hunter, feel the pressure, for hunting is not free
When you slaughter and snatch another’s liberty
There will be judgement, for unjust killing has a price
The Creator is reckoning the wanton waste of life.
Custodian of Creation, reckless man in pursuit
Of all living wonders, and who glorifies such loot.
How could you disrespect the laws of one Divine
To imagine you had freedom to ignore the blatant sign?
Hurting nature for selfish gain is shooting blindly, out of line
Off target and with foolishness, completely without aim.

Time now to reflect, draw a line, and end it quick
And apologise from your cold heart –
For you don’t know, our Creator has YOU in sight!
He gives life and takes life away - it isn’t your right!
Cruel tyrant pursuing darkness, whilst ignoring the blessed light.

Dominion, not destruction, care and proper use
Is expected by our God, for He is good and creates with love
Whilst YOU, weaponed creature, grind conscience into dust
Seek forgiveness while you can from Him who reigns in power up above.
