Oh God, why is it that with closed eyes We see the beauty of Your creation – From snow-capped mountains to glorious sunsets To swaying trees, against moonlit skies From a puppy’s warmth, to a raging wind From a white-sailed boat bobbing on a calm, blue sea From a baby’s first smile to a mother’s deep love From a rose uncurling, as it blossoms and glows? Oh You! God of all creation - What beauty You have shown us! What a world You have given us! And what joys You promise, as life unfolds! Oh God! Why is it that with closed ears We hear the amazing song of the Earth – From colourful birds greeting the bright, morning sun From white-laced waves crashing on to weathered rocks From babies crying as they search for love From children’s laughter as they joyfully play From the piano’s tune as dexterous fingers dance From a steam train’s pounding on hard iron tracks And Your whispering Truth in our hearts and minds For You speak of love and hope and life? Oh God! How can we taste Your goodness; yet deny the source - The red-blooded grape, with perfume from its vine The fresh-risen bread wafting from the baker’s hot stove For You provide in abundance… and delight in us all! For You’re the Father who gives to the child who appeals Who offers us love – nothing false, only real Touch our hearts, we pray, and bring us to life Take away our denial – For with closed eyes, we see and with closed ears, we hear Which stem from a pride which can kill For surely we can make it on our own!? So we’re deaf to Your Word and blind to the Truth – Convert us to You and save us from self! Take the love we all have, as an offering to You Convict us in Truth, so that we are free to love You Break the chains which weigh heavy And the shackles which burn From the lies which imprison And the walls which surround For we are caught in death’s cell And the darkness hangs low Oh, Good God, let Your light – glorious and strong Obliterate our wrongs! Let us walk with You, hand in hand Singing in harmony, Life’s joyful song Carry us gently in Your arms of love Bless us and bless You, for in You we belong. Amen
