The Mother of the World looked down
at the bed of new-laid straw
Animals made noises
as they shuffled and sweetly moaned
The air was dry and still-warm
from a sun-blessed day
The night sky was piercing-black
and an emerging star shone bright.
A Mother looked down at her belly-flesh
which bulged and moved at her soft caress
All slowly became silent and peaceful
The sounds from nearby streets quietened
as a beautiful woman sighed
The groaning was deep and sweet
as she welcomed in New Life.
A Mother breathed out
and with joy, breathed in
Oh, Blessed Child so wholly holy
Cried she with our New-Born King
Exultant, praising, thanking, kissing
for this Magnificent God would overwhelm sin.
The Star now travelled, oh, so near and beamed so wide its light
on a trembling Earth below
The loving Mother held the Baby close
with her soothing lips upon His head
Her tears fell upon His skin so soft
washing away all dread and fear
for Darkness fled as Love came down
to a world now drenched in sin
His eyes met hers and a fire was lit
as true hearts knitted together, forever.
Mary was that Mother Holy
For unto us a Son was born
Jesus, Baby, alive in a stable, lowly
High King of Heaven, now with His people, below
The End Times were beginning
For the gauntlet had been laid -
salvation for the sinner…
for God had heard the hearts of those who prayed.
