Elijah called on God to light the fire, to burn an offering on an Altar made for the Lord.
The people on Mount Carmel had done the same for Baal, in this strange and absurd game, a bullish trial, true faith to be won.
Elijah drenched his wood in water, and invoked the Name of the Lord –
the Holy and Almighty One. Rain down Your fire, oh God!
Call today on your false god –
Who cannot hear you,
Who cannot see you,
Who does not love you,
Who not know for you…
And all day they made their plea, for fire to fall, but tasted instead a bitter gall.
God’s flames licked the water and the sodden wood burned bright;
the Bull offering consumed, was a wonderful sight!
The God of Heaven shocked the people of Baal,
as their bull laid still, and their hearts were limp –
for fire could only be created by Light.
Darkness descended on their spirits that night,
for God worked in their world,
tossing Baal aside as Truth unfurled.
Today false gods take our time and time is running out!
Look to the Fire, for God’s Spirit is great.
Don’t leave it too late but find in your heart the way to believe,
for the Gate open now, is calling us all.
Open your eyes, open your ears, talk humbly now to the Lord -
for His flaming sword will cut right to your soul
and you’ll find freedom and love, and beauty untold.
God will ignite His fire in your heart - you will burn with desire for his love…
His love will astound you, for with joy He has found you.
No longer will you search empty places in dark spaces
For you will be home, in His Light and His love and never alone.
