Is Our God Silent?

 Is Our God Silent?

 Is our God silent?
Has He closed His ears, His eyes, His heart to us,
as we struggle and fall and weep?
Does He remember not how His only Son died for us?
And how He fell on stony ground whilst Mary, His Mother, wept bitterly?
Has He, the Almighty One, forgotten His promises?
Has He finally given up on us, as we turn away?
Does He deplore our violence and hate? Our attacks against the innocent,
the unborn, the poor, the rejected, and the marginalised?
Does He anguish over our selfish choices, our hard hearts,
our fruitless ambition, and cold unforgiveness?
Does He weep over our closed minds, our lack of thanks,
and mindful indifference to the gifts He has given us?
Can He tolerate no longer the ruination of this beautiful world He created…for us?
Did we ever take seriously, our responsibilities as custodians of the natural world, and
all that lives on this planet, Earth?

The waterfall crashes into the waiting depths
The frog leaps on to the nearby rock
The fish swim, splashing and gliding, enjoying their home
The birds twitter and tweet in the trees’ branches, set against a deep-blue sky
The leaves flutter in the gentle breeze and catch the sunlight
Light breaks through from passing clouds,
bathing the water in radiance and mesmerising on on-lookers,
dazzled by the beauty of this wonderful world.
Fragments of bark and broken flowers fall on to the forest floor,
adding texture and delight to this scene.

And as we breathe in deeply, overwhelmed by God’s gift to us –
mere mortals; yet wonderful made in His Image,
dare we to believe that He loves us that much!
So much that He promises us life through Him, for He is Life itself –
and so purified by Him, we may see His Holy Face and look deeply into true Love’s eyes?!

Is our God silent? NO! How can He be? We belong to Him. He made us.

We are silent in our deafness, disdain, unbelief, arrogance –
allowing Death, not Life, to consume us…willingly choosing the Dark!

Open your eyes, open your ears, open your heart…
And you will find the true Source of life: the ONE AND ONLY GOD.
