Yellow sand dampened by wet splashes
Deep blue, with bubbling froth
Wind carrying the sound of laughter and quiet conversation
And all is wonderfully at peace
In this ocean of calm and beauty
 
A sailing boat passes gently along the horizon
A bird flutters and dives above a rippling sea
All fear, all anxieties vanish
For time is still in this oasis of heat
 
Where is the world, with its stress and noise?
Far beyond here, for mind and body are at rest.
For a while, this place of summer sun brings refuge
And the juggling of commitment and energies subsides.
Capture it, we must –
For it cannot last.
Life, in all its ways,
Will blast again to split this diamond
Every aspect and facet of its glassy fragility, seemingly strong,
Will splinter and shatter.
 
Oh, amazing relief!
Oh, bright sun!
Oh, precious jewel in this world’s glorious splendour!
 
We are but passing through, voyagers of time and place.
The boat, now out of sight,
Has sailed to a new destination –
Perhaps a port of rest…for a time?
 
Like us, forever going forth to wonderful newness, offered by a life of wonder!
