Who is this man, we nailed to a tree? Do you know him? Did he offend you enough, To cause you panic and fear... So that the only way out was taking his life...from your strife? If you could, Would you take it all back? And learn to love in the way He loved you? Could you put aside all your fear and, of course, face the Truth Your eyes would not see because He challenged your right to be free – Free of a conscience, if you know what I mean? Yes, He told us the poor mattered; that God loved the weak; That He came to help those we’d judged lost; That His heart bled for sinners; that the rich were in need; And only through Him, could we live forever. Was taking His life (because he exposed our raw pride And in doing so exposed all our lies)... An acceptable cost? Would we do it again, If He came by some day And told us that He was God’s Son? Would we judge Him as mad, a blasphemer... Or at least bad, Because He seemed just an ordinary man – You know, like a carpenter, or architect, Or a doctor, of sorts? Would we cut Him some slack? Because in the Bible it says He’ll be back - (But that really is another case for concern... For too few hearts have been set alive or burned by the words of a ‘dated, old Book’; Take a look – is there something you’ve missed!) Think about it now – where do you stand In the grand scheme of a thing called Life...or Death? Imagine Him now looking right at your soul – Because it’s something He can do, you know...look Right through you with eyes as bright as the sun. But there’s a difference, I know (yes, me!) And it’s to do with His heart - so deep and so wide and so pure. Unlike the hypocrisy we can sometimes offer as love His love has no ties – it’s free; unconditional; not something you buy. Can we comprehend that by God He was sent To show us that Heaven is real? That we are given a choice about paths we can take – One is false; the other is true? The first can seem easy and really quite straight; The latter, quite hard and a trial But with His love divine, grey can turn into colours sublime. Jesus Christ, Jesu Christo, Fils de Dieu - do you know him? That man we all hanged from a tree, back in Judea Two thousand years ago? And just so you know, He still has our lives in the palm of His hand. On the day that we die we will know that He spent our lifetime Just trying to teach us, and trying to reach us. If He sat now at your table, sharing food and sweet wine And told you that God loves us all... Would our bitterest gall, come out from inside Because we look at the damage that’s been done in the world And look for someone to blame? (It’s not our shame or our fault – so just quit with the blame!) So we deny all our faults And the pain we’ve been sent And throw it all to the wind. We refuse to ask for God’s saving help Through repentance and sorrow for sins. Worse still, with triumphant voice and pride madly ablaze We declare He doesn’t exist. We continue to destroy and to kill People, Nature and Love – all created by God, above. And me? Oh, me! Well, I’m waiting on God Finding hope through His precious Son The most glorious and mighty One. So I proclaim his great name And beg him to come and Take me to God’s kingdom of love And into the beautiful, redeeming light of His Son. For Love Absolute has won. Julie Hughes July 2014
