Battle of Wills Spring 2017

A word is whispered in my ear, ‘Come.
Hear me now, and do as I say.’
But I hear the battering wind
And see lightning flashes amid a dense, black sky.

Night is falling and the late sun departs –
Soft pink, and mingled with a heavy grey.

My heart is perched between layers of a changing sky, pondering You –
God of light, light from Light, true God from True God.

You hit me hard, waiting for my response:
‘I am here – servant and friend; ready to do Your will.’
The task seems great; my minds recoils –
Feeling weak and ill-equipped.
But You, God of All, call me…
‘Yes, I am here, ready to do Your will.’

My heart is timid; my strength departs!
Confidence vanishes; hope is sought.
‘I will try, oh God, I will try.’

Oh, fading Light, stay strong and bright in my heart
And press me into action. Let me tire not –
Walk with me and stay a while, for I need You.
Be my will, my strength, my eyes, my heart, my ears
And let Your will be done.
