Bats in the Belfry – May 2017

In the black of night
When the Earth is silent
And a strange peace pervades
Eyes glare, surveying with care
Flickering fast, as the tree branch breaks
Ready to swoop, to catch their prey

False alarm, no mammal moves
Just a sudden gust, a crackling leaf
Silence disturbed whilst the World’s asleep.
Nocturnal nomads, they linger and strike
Weird sounds are heard in the darkness, cold
The bats are in the belfry, protected from old.

The bells will again ring out loud
Calling the people – reminding us all.
In the silence of our hearts, we’ll stir
In the darkness of our souls, we’ll move
In the blackness of opaque fog, we’ll breathe
And inhale hope – and what will pass for peace.

The bells will echo over frozen lands
And light will beam from a mystery source
Night will become day, as Nature awakes.
And the bats in the belfry, will sing of new life
For we all belong – me and you.
Together we’ll rise, as the Son rises, too.

In the white of the day
The Earth’s heart will beat fast
Jubilation and newness will reign
Eyes will survey a wondrous scene
Capturing a new time of peace
All ready to embrace a new worl
