Are You There?

White splashes dark rock in a deep blue sea –

Where are You God in its power?

Are You its energy and life?

So where life is not visible, are You there?

The sunflower reaches high in to the blue sky,

Absorbing heat and light – does it know You?

It grows with You – replicating, producing…more life, more yellow

As it sprays its seed on fertile, still soil.

Are You there in the silence and the stillness?

Are You that silent, sustaining, ever-creating power? Visible and invisible?

Are You there, in the weed as it struggles to creep through broken stones

And paths – because it, too, grasps life, reaching to the heavens?

Even if we don’t desire it, You allow it to persist and make its claim –

Everything has its claim, justified by You, because You are life!

Crashing giant waves have life;

So, too, the gentle ripples on the sandy shore –

All are beautiful; all attract the eyes, which search for You, because You give life.

Can we all search?  Will You, Creator and most high God, remove our

Blindness, shed the veil, destroy the darkness and heal our wounds?

Will You open our hearts; warm our coldness; give us life and peace?

Please, I pray, save us! Save us all! Heal us; make us new…in You.

Obliterate fear. Extinguish our pride, with the fire of Your holy love…I pray.

In the silence of our souls at peace, in the depth of our spirits, will we find You?

As our beating hearts drum in time with You, will we know You?

Will You, transcendent Father of mankind, let us find you, for we have

Nowhere else to go? We are Your children, yet lost in our own selfishness…

Have mercy.

So I close my eyes and my ears; I close out the pulsating, noisy world and

Listen for Your still voice in the stillness of my hope. The spirit breathes…

Ah, Your immanence is my hope; and my life, Yours. Amen.
