ARE YOU REAL? 2016

Where are you, God?
People tell me about you but I don’t think I know you.
You sound amazing!
And they tell me how great you are and that you’re everywhere.
But I don’t know how to find you.
It’s all too good to be true – unbelievable, in fact.

Can you hear me?
You know – if you’re there – can’t you just let me know?
Just so I can believe you’re real.
People tell me to read the Bible but I just can’t take it in.
Who were those writers and story-tellers and poets? It’s all fiction and too old!
Surely you can appreciate my point of view?
I’d like to believe – because these people, who say they know you, seem so sure!
I just don’t get it!
And they talk about love and joy and peace – sounds fantastic!
Oh help me, please!
They say you love me…just as I am – even me!
And that you created me!

I can’t hear a thing. I don’t feel anything. Nothing makes sense.
Nothing. Nothing. It’s all futile. Pointless.
I am waiting; waiting for you. Touch me; bring me back to life.
I’m desperate. And desperate people do desperate things –
So I’m mad enough now to plead. Help me, please!
I find it so hard to believe. Believe me!

They say that you’ll always answer if I call on the name of Jesus.
Jesus! Jesus! Answer me, please.
Make haste to help me, for I am falling…

You are there…

In the wind and the sky and the rain
In life and death
In the butterfly and bee
In the flowers and trees and weeds
In the pink sunset and orange dawn
In hurricanes and sandstorms, earthquakes and cracking ice
In the silence and the noise
In ghettoes and suburbs and city sprawl
In streets paved with gold and grey prison walls
In the panther and the python
In the galloping horse and the squirrel at play
In the baby’s cry and the mother’s joy
In the father’s labour and the child’s laughter
In the beating heart and the heart that breaks
In the flowing stream and the torrential flood
In the mighty waves and the high mountaintops
In the jungle’s sweet song and the land at war
In the soldier’s grief and the dying man’s fear

In all, you are there
For you sustain everything you have created.
For you, alone, are life.
Alpha, Omega. Creator.
