I am in a sandy pit - round, encased by a metre-high barrier He moves around - the snake - but does not strike I have been there a while, through the night When the morning light comes, I leap over the barrier I am free. He could not touch me; there was little fear. I watch him crash through the barrier, going north He slithers and wriggles on the ground, eating dust Up ahead I see huge wild beasts on his right side I pray that they will not attack him For his bite is dangerous They hold back and let him go. He continues on his journey, fading into the distance. For now, we are safe.
