A place in Sardinia! Yes, that’s what I want, having been on holiday there for an entire week. And, more conclusively, it was spent in a time of unchangeable weather – totally uncharacteristic, I was told. Wind, rain, cloud and, well, odds bursts of enrapturing sunshine, flanked by brilliant blues skies. You see, I now know the place and can envisage my tomorrows spent there, joyfully, in this earthly paradise. Don’t get me wrong – I’m not one given to impulsive decisions and absurd thoughts. I have travelled, out of season, to many parts of Italy and I know that it has many things to offer besides pasta and pizzas. Let’s start with the pace of life, which is slower and seems more civilised; then, the food, which is really enjoyed for its flavour and freshness. We British do like our food, but in this haven, and all over Italy, I found numerous little shops selling fresh fruit and veg; freshly-baked bread and fancies that made your olfactories dance with delight; and butchers’ shops, with lots of chat and banter provided as you scanned the choices on offer that day
