A Mother’s Tears

The Angel Gabriel sent a shockwave through your heart.
He announced that you, born and raised for this, would
bear the Son of God. Did tears fall gently at this calling?

Oh, Mary, were your tears for your Father’s blessing, for your task
so unique, for a mother’s joy, for your baby in the womb?

Oh, beautiful Jesus, under a bright night star was laid on straw, in a manger, in an animals’ stall.
Joseph and Mary looked down on the King of kings, the Lord of lords.
Tears of joy, tears of fear, tears of expectation…at what lay ahead.
And tears of wonder at God’s marvellous creation.

Fleeing to Egypt, a slaughter of the Innocents. Babies’ blood spilt at Herod’s command. Oh, sweet, little Child, protected by Love;
little Holy Family, washing a world stained by sin.

Presented in the Temple, a prophesy so true – a sword would pierce your holy heart; more tears of pain would fall.
Oh, beating heart of love, what sadness lay ahead –
years of joy and love, blessed by faith, hope and trust!

The Father’s love held hearts entwined, with promises of life –
His Son, given to the world, made with His wondrous New Wine.

But Jesus was imprisoned, beaten near to death.
The Magnificent Son, fell hard on the stony road to Life.
Nailed upon a cross; this obscenity so absurd.
Rivers of innocent blood flowed free, as blind on-lookers looked away…
His life sorely ransomed to free us all from sin; the cost immeasurable never could be paid.

How torrents of tears must have flooded your spirit, drenching a heart so pure – a soul then sanctified by love, and grace from Heaven above.
Your tears watered the land and Jesus’s blood, the Earth.
Thunder roared and mountains split - Nature in turmoil, sighed – meanwhile our hearts became heavy with loss, and our tears we could not hide.

Oh, Mother Mary, intercede for us and beg God to forgive…
for the agony of His Son has bought us life, so that Love so Pure can live.
Let tears of joy bathe our hearts, wherein, the Holy Spirit lives.
