Love Waits

Look at the day drifting in the clouds that pass by
And the sea, with its waves that warm the sand.
Lie still, sweet dreamer, till soft winds move your mind
And pools of thought flow to different lands.
Feel then a sun that shines on the hearts of men
Giving life where life has not been.
And ships that sail in the night, sail free –
Drifting in waters which harbour our tears.

Look now at my love without end;
But alas one for me which died in its wake.
Close on me this day on which the sun cannot shine,
And my tears can unite with the waters of life.
Sweet dreamer, let me die, for you are gone
And the life that once had being is no longer in me:
I am gone, for you are not with me.

Come back, sweet life that I threw away!
Turn not those golden eyes to other lands.
You are a part of me, though truth itself was lost.
And I for you, will wait once more.
Think of me for my tears are falling in the night
And these summer winds blow cold.
In my heart a dream of you lies still,
Feeding on a love which cost such pride.

I am here waiting for new hurricanes of joy to sweep my mind.
I’ll not scatter them to where you roam.
And such hope is all there is –
But forever can I wait in love for you?
