White splashes dark rock in a deep, blue sea.
Where are You God, in its power?
Are You energy and life?
So where there is no life visible, are You absent?
The sunflower reaches up to the hazy sky,
Absorbing heat and light.
Does it know You?
It grows with You, replicating, producing more life and more yellow,
As it sprays its seed on fertile, still soil.
Are You there in the silence and the stillness?
Are You silent, sustaining, ever-creating power?
Visible and invisible?
Are You there in the weed, as it struggles to creep through
Broken stones and paths – because it, too, grasps life and spreads?
Even if we don’t desire it, you allow it to persist – to make its claim
And to aid its growing friends, adding opportunities for survival.
Everything has a claim – justified by You, for You are life!
Crashing waves have life; so, too, the gentle ripples on a sandy shore.
All are beautiful; all attract their eyes, that search for You,
For in these created things, You can be seen and heard.
Can we all search? Will You remove our blindness?
Will You shed the veil and destroy darkness?
Can You open our cold hearts to truth
And allow Your warmth to transform us?
Give us life, true peace and joy?
Please, I pray…save us all! Heal us. Make us new…in You.
Obliterate our fear.
Extinguish our pride with the fire of your Holy Love.
In the quiet of our souls at peace, will we find You?
Will You let us find You, if we seek You?
Can our beating hearts, beat in unison with Yours?
Will we find You, when we call on Your Name?
We truly have nowhere else to go.
So I close my eyes and ears,
I close out the pulsating, noisy world,
And I listen for Your powerfully-gentle voice…
Your immanence is my hope, my desire, my very being.
I am Yours.
